Rocks

Schist

A solitary block of schist, forgotten by the ice sheets on top of Brown Mountain, County Wicklow. It is surrounded by granite boulders. When the mountains were created, the rock was exposed to immense heat and pressure, metamorphosing (transforming) an originally flat, sedimentary rock into its present shape.
