Old Clane

New Cross

A new cross in an old base, Millicent Road, Clane, erected by the Clane Ecumenical Group in 1999. The cross base may be Early Christian, dating back to the ancient monastery founded here by St Ailbe, Bishop of Emly. However, one expert dated it to be from the 17th century. The cross itself is modelled on an old cross found in a graveyard in Emly, Co. Tipperary, the reputed resting place of the saint. Reverse view of the cross.
