Some Environmental Considerations

Avoiding environmental damage when growing maize is vital. Leaching, run-off and soil erosion are the main problems. They can be avoided by:
1. Ensuring that run-off does not pollute watercourses.
2. Matching slurry and fertiliser applications to crop requirements.
3. Considering a winter crop to protect the soil and reduce leaching.
4. Removing soil from public roadways following harvest operations.
